Someone asked me recently what I do for work, and I found myself explaining how important every detail of a brand is, down to the bathroom lighting.
I received a blank stare.
“Are we talking about the lighting in an office building?”
“In this case, yes.”
Allow me to start over. Hi, my name is Rachel. I am a writer and designer, but my resume states “Brand Marketing” (which, I am beginning to realize, is not a household concept).
I really thought I was going to be a lawyer. I don't know exactly how this happened, except that I quit the speech and debate team in high school, ended up in a graphic design class, still ended up attending UCSD (a school known for its science programs), and still ended up as a professional artist.
My range spans CPG, professional beauty, and foodservice, building brand systems, directing photography, and shipping campaigns for names like Revlon and CND alongside commercial kitchen equipment brands.
Right now I'm looking for hybrid Art Director / Senior Designer roles in the Bay Area: maker-forward, individual-contributor work where I'm still hands-on with the craft, not just directing it from a distance.
